Sanjeev Kumar Jaiswal's picture

Windows fontsMost of the internet or computer users use Microsoft Office word for document purpose (Those who use Microsoft Operating Systems). This blog will show you how to use different text fonts other than English text.
For example: How to use Hindi , Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam fonts in MS word.

Follow these steps to install your desired fonts:

  1. Download the fonts that you wish to use in MS word. Foe ex: Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil, Malayalam etc.   It should have .tff extension. Ex: hindi_font.tff
  2. Save this font anywhere in your system and then copy it to fonts directory. You can reach to Fonts directory in 2 ways
    1. Open C:/Windows/Fonts (will work in Any Windows O.S. like XP, Vista, Win7 etc)
    2. Got to Control panel there you will see Fonts Directory in Windows XP and Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Fonts for Windows Vista users
  3. Open that Fonts Directory and just paste the fonts. You are Done!
  4. Now open MS word and you will see that font name or font style in your font field.

I have tested it on Windows XP and Windows Vista only. If you find any issues in installing fonts into your system or  facing problem in using it. Please let us know we may solve your issues.

You can download few common fonts that may be useful for you from the attached links shown below:

Thanks Sujit, its tough to find links for all languages

Yes you are right Sujit, Even I was thinking the same. But it was very hard to find all working fonts in tff format.

Thats why I worked on some fonts and after successful completion of that font I attached it with this post.
Although IE users can't see atached files.

Which font you are using for Hindi?

Try this: http://www.aliencoders.com/sites/default/files/hindi.ttf

After installing, search for kruti dev 010, select this font and then type. If still you are not getting words in Hindi then let us know.

P.S. This font is working fine in my system.

You can make shurti and mangal to work

Follow these steps:

  1. open control panel
  2. search for Regional and Languages Options, open that
  3. Under format tab , you will see current format dropdown list. By default it will be English, EN
  4. select Hindi(India) from that dropdown list
  5. click apply and ok
  6. Now open MS word
  7. You will see EN at the right most bottom corner, near quick launch bar.
  8. Click on that you can see HI or GU or whatever you will select from that Language dropdown list
  9. Now try to type in Ms word it will take from mangal or shruti or whatever you select from font type under ms word font list

Hope this will help you
